Amadeus Pro Reporting Wrong Bit Depth on Apple Lossless (m4a) Files

Post by jvenzon »

I have several recording I made at 96 & 192kHz 24 bit using Pure Vinyl that I transcoded from WAV to Apple Lossless using Amadeus Pro (WITHOUT bit depth change) and now when I open the .m4a file in Amadeus Pro Version 2.8.4 (2525) it reports the bit depth in the lower left hand window as 16 bit not 24. The sampling rate is reported correctly. When I use Apple Music to open the same files and get info, it reports 24 bit, and the App "Mediainfo" also reports 24 bit.

I then opened .m4a files I purchased from HDTracks in Amadeus Pro (96kHz 24 bit) and they are also reporting as 16 bit, not 24 and I haven't done any transcoding on them. They are as they were delivered from HDTracks.

I'm hesitant to do any work declicking the vinyl in Amadeus Pro for fear of truncating the bit length when I save my work in case Amadeus Pro is just misreporting the bit depth.

Any thoughts?
John
