Recording whatever your computer is playing (but internally)

Post by MrClumpy »

Hi all.

How does one record what the computer is playing prior to it going through the speakers (for example a stream from the internet)? Is there a way to do this when there is no "line in" involved?

Thanks.

To get you started, have a look at sections; 11.4 & 14.4 in the Amadeus Pro manual and also have a look at Martin’s post here: https://www.hairersoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7479
If you follow his link to the BlackHole webpage, I would suggest to start with, ignore all those links at the very top of the page for now and scroll down a tad and read the rest of the page from bellow the BlackHole logo.
Most likely you will only need to install the 2 Chanel version, but who knows, maybe the 256 channels one is the one of your dreams!

In combination with BlackHole I also use SoundSource by Rouge Amoeba.
Their apps aren’t free and not essential, (other app vendors are out there), but SoundSouce was a good fit for my needs.
You can find their site here: https://rogueamoeba.com/

Thanks, Mark. I ended up using VB-Audio Cable (https://vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm) and that seemed to do the trick. It took some trial and error to get it right, but in the end it proved to be just what I needed (and it was free). A case study is at https://vb-audio.com/Cable/VBCABLE_CaseStudy_XP.pdf.
