Where do you hear the distortion? Does it sound okay in AP? I do know that earlier versions of Toast get really annoyed if a file is not sampled to 44.1 khz -- is it possible that that is the problem -- not necessarily toast but some other program has a problem with non-44.1 khz files? The original mp3 comes in at some different frequency and if you don't resample, whoever plays it next gets bent out of shape.

Ah, I see. I should have indicated that this happens when ever I open an mp3 file, uncheck the "Do not resample" button in the characteristics settings, and resave as an mp3 file. I also should have indicated that I'm using version 2.1 of Amadeus Pro.

I'm a totally blind Mac user and thus, use Voice Over to obtain output from my Mac book Pro running Lion.
I have noticed that, ever since I installed Lion on my machine, and every time I normalize a file to -3 or -5DB with the RMS values checked, the file that results is very distorted if it's an mp3 file but not with .4ma or .wav or any other sort. Has anybody else noticed this?
